Strengths

"I would contend that, whether people are conscious of it or not, ethics is always involved in robotic design and use. Every choice in design or application is an ethical decision. What kind of materials should you use? (eg. are they sustainable? who manufactured them? does the texture suggest human-like sentience?). What you're doing is making these ethical decisions conscious, so that they can be more intentional."
dr. Madelaine Ley Robotics Philosopher
"I think it’s overly optimistic to assume that technology can reliably be ethics driven. I think technology is mostly economics driven, but if we can incentivize ethics through an economic system maybe it would be more plausible. Although that is difficult to envision."

" Designing for a bunch of people with all kinds of needs, values, and perspectives is a real pain. There has to be definition and boundaryy of inlcusivity. "

Weaknesses

"I've raised concerns regarding how sex robots afford a type of masculine (idiotic) sexual enjoyment, which disavows and devalues other (non-phallic) modes of sexual enjoyment. As (desirable) sexuality is constructed and embedded in patriarchal and heteronormative socio-political orders - and normative sex robot design can naturalise these orders - it is key to imagine and design sex robots in less phallic ways. I have offered some suggestions to do so through a queer Lacanian lens on (technological) sexual enjoyment."

"The workshop is wide-ranging and extensive, with a lot of ideas. I am particularly enthusiastic about the section on disability and design. Though it is inline with robot ‘ethics’ exactly, the wide coverage of the work should seamlessly bring a difference in future robotic work. "
dr. Mark Paterson Robotics Social Scientist
"What a great site! It’s very dynamic and impressive, and is sure to be filled out with even more content. I love the ‘flashcards’ as that makes things easily digestible. Do look at the ‘Military’ one, though – it’s currently misspelt. A tiny error in an otherwise impressive site so far! "

"This sounds like a cool project. I have to admit, robotics isn't really my area of expertise. I like the general idea behind your project."

"I imagine this is not relevant for me but for electrical, mechanical and design faculties. "
